Our Centre for Doctoral Training goes beyond the traditional engineering disciplines to bring together students from backgrounds in engineering, sciences, mathematics and social sciences.
The depth of knowledge and breadth of skills delivered by the Integrated MRes and PhD programme equips our students to take leading roles in addressing the complex challenges in the UK propulsion industry.
Automotive master's degrees
Four specifically designed automotive master’s courses provide students with the systems thinking knowledge and diverse and transferable skill set the sector searches for in its employees. All share a project-based approach, centred around a topical automotive theme set at the beginning of the course. This, along with shared units link the courses together to give students the benefit of working with peers from different academic backgrounds for a truly transdisciplinary learning experience.
University Partnership Program
IAAPS participates in the AVL University partnership program such that we are able to access their cutting-edge simulation tools in a range of research projects, and postgraduate and undergraduate training activities. We are currently researching the performance of a single rotor Wankel rotary engine with intermittent injector and spark timing control as part of the ADAPT project and use AVL Boost software and utilise AVL’s data analysis tool, Concerto 5TM across a number of projects. We expose our undergraduates to a broad range of industry standard simulation tools and are pleased that the AVL University partnership programme enables our students to gain experience of the AVL software portfolio.
